JARCH Vis Update

So back in May, I said it would be a couple weeks until windows were supported. Obviously, it has been much longer than that. School and work have kept me busy, but I have been working on the newest release which will be out before I go back to school in a couple weeks. Some of the improvements for the newest version will be:

  1. Major rewrites of many parts, more reliable, faster
  2. The code for shingles has been rewritten allowing shingles to now be used when converting a plane into a roof object.
  3. Windows will be included
  4. When converting a plane into a roof object, face rotation and pitch will be automatically determined, and will not have to be entered manually.
  5. Better handling of materials to be quicker
  6. All code should follow PEP standards, and be easier to read and maintain
  7. For this release I will be hosting the code on GitHub, which is what I will be doing from now on, as most of the rest of my projects are already on there.

JARCH Vis: Windows Progess

It has been awhile since I have posted an update about JARCH Vis: Windows because I have been busy with school. Since school is finished and I have started work I have been able to code the creation of partial circle, oval, and gothic windows. Leaving only one type of window to add and then supporting materials and smooth shading. Hopefully within the next few weeks I will be able to release this!

CubeSter version 0.3 has been released!

CubeSter version 0.3 has been released!
New things include being able to color the mesh using and image instead of just vertex colors. Also, if using an image, then you can use an image to generate the mesh and another to create the material. All nodes are created, they are just not all linked up, so custom node setups can be done easily.

The newest version can be gotten here, and specific details, examples, and other info can be found here.

Image To Cubes

Today I wrote a simple script that converts an image to a mesh composed of cubes whose heights denote the intensity of the pixel at that location, like this example:

Several years ago a similar program was written called Cubify. It was pretty slow when it came to images over the size about about 64x64, so I wanted to make a version that would be faster. My version took 1.04 seconds on an 128x128 image. I didn't allow Cubify to finish, but based on time estimates it would have taken 27 minutes which is almost 1,600 times longer. I am going to make finishing touches and will release a version within the next couple days.
